Fetal movement is one of the most exciting moments during pregnancy. These are the kicks, turns and hiccups of your baby in the womb. These movements help you to check that your baby is well and is receiving the oxygenation and nutrients necessary for its development.
If you are experiencing your first pregnancy, you will surely have many questions, but don’t worry, we will clarify many of them here.

When will it happen for the first time?
Most likely you will not perceive your baby’s movements until you are between weeks 16 and 22 of pregnancy, but your baby moves from week seven or eight and its first movements cannot be felt, they can only be observed thanks to ultrasounds.
It will be much easier for you to distinguish your little one’s movements when you are calmly sitting or lying down.

What do my baby’s first movements feel like?
The first few times you will feel some light taps and very subtle movements that you might mistake for hunger or gas, but there are mothers who, as time goes by, compare their baby’s movements to a little fish swimming back and forth, or a butterfly fluttering in their tummy.
How often should my baby move?
During the first 3 months, the kicks will be few and far between, and there will even be days when you notice a lot of movement and others when none at all.

In the second trimester, your baby will kick and move with more intense and regular movements that will allow you to be sure that everything is going well. Each baby is different in the way they move, so you may not experience exactly the same thing.
What are normal fetal movements?
The activity of the baby in the womb can be described in 4 states, from the least active to the most active. During the passive state, your baby will probably remain still for a maximum of 2 hours. During the active state, your baby will kick, roll over and move frequently. During the quiet waking state, your baby may only move his eyes, and during the active waking state, he will kick hard and roll around.

Every woman is different, so we recommend that you spend time getting familiar with your baby’s movements so that you know his schedule according to the stages described above.
Over time, you will notice how the intensity and rhythm of the movements will change and you will even feel an increasingly stronger connection with your baby. Enjoy this stage very much, which is undoubtedly the favorite of many mothers.
